Vicious Viruses - Saturday, December 09, 2006
We bought a new laptop for my wife to use for studying just three months ago. Very quickly something started flashing on the screen telling us something was wrong.

Ten days ago things got really bad, with the machine slowing down to a crawl. A friend recommended the EggHeads so we gave them a call. Our EggHead came round that night and immediately got to work.

At the end of two hours he had changed our anti-virus software for one that worked, and best of all was free! The new software found 145 different virus infections and more than 160 pieces of spyware. These were doing all sorts of things over our broadband connection, like downloading adverts and sending out emails pretending to be from us. Not good!

It's all sorted now though. But we'll certainly be calling EggHeads again as soon as something goes wrong.

Wireless Wonder - Saturday, December 09, 2006
I'd bought a wireless modem for my broadband about three months ago, but never got around to fitting it. Frankly it all looked a bit daunting.

Anyway, we called the EggHeads and a guy came round and sorted it in just one hour, including changing the settings on our main PC and linking up our two laptops.

He had to pop back a couple of days later because of a problem with the email, but he soon had that sorted. All in, a great service and well worth the money for all the hassle it has saved us.

My EggHead is a Know-It-All! - Thursday, November 09, 2006
I called EggHeads because there were just a few things around the house that needed sorting.  Simple things really, but much easier to fix if you are an EggHead!

Firstly my tape player wasn't working - or so I thought.  My EggHead quickly determined that it was in fact a problem with the old amplifier.  That saved some time - and money!

Next our answering machine had the wrong time on, which always confused us when we got messages.  The EggHead reset it in seconds.

Finally we were having trouble with our TV.  Our cable provider had stopped giving us More4 for free and we wanted to watch the West Wing.  Instead of paying extra every month, our EggHead recommended a Freeview Decoder, sending us a list of options once he had returned to base.

For the price of an hour, the EggHead saved us loads of time fiddling around and doing research.  Well worth it!

"EggHeads 1 - Apple 0" - Monday, September 11, 2006
"A couple of days ago my iPod stopped working and wouldn't talk to my computer any more.  The drive to work just isn't the same if I can't sing along to Dolly Parton, so this was quite a disaster! 

I tried taking my iPod to the Apple store and was told that I had to have an appointment to see someone.  The staff at the counter directed me to a computer where I had to click a button to get an appointment.  Unfortunately the computer said no: they had no more appointments available that day.  I asked if I could make an appointment for the next day and they said no, appointments could only be made the same day.  So I asked if I could call them up to make an appointment and they said no again - I would have to come in to the store to make an appointment.  How ridiculous!  At this point I flounced out of the store.

A friend had told me about EggHeads so I thought I'd give them a try instead.  The same evening I had an EggHead round at my house and he fixed my iPod in minutes.  Not only did he get it working, but while he was there he also set it up so I can transfer films from iTunes - great for long train journeys.  He also noticed - and fixed - a virus on my computer while he was at it.  All in under an hour! 

Just avoiding the hassle of driving back to the Apple store and having to wait for an appointment was worth £25.   On top of that EggHeads fixed problems I didn't even know I had.  Thanks EggHeads!"

"Bring On Broadband" - Monday, September 11, 2006
"I've just moved up to the Manchester area to study and wanted to get online so that I could stay in contact with my friends back home in Wales, as well as for research.  A friend put me on to the EggHeads and they've been fantastic.

My EggHead helped me find the best broadband package for my budget, and also found me a cheap broadband modem that will let me connect my laptop to the internet without trailing wires up the stairs (unlike the arrangement I had at home!).  He walked me through ordering everything and next week he's coming round to get it all set up.  So much easier when you have someone who understands it all to give you advice!  Thanks EggHeads!" "EggHeads Nursed My PC Back to Health" - Thursday, August 24, 2006
"A friend of mine needed somewhere to stay a few weeks ago and it happened to coincide with a time when I was out of the country.  We agreed that she would come in and house sit and feed my cats while I was away.

When we came back we found our computer was behaving very strangely.  It wasn't very old but it had suddenly become very slow.  When we opened up the Internet, there were lots of adverts popping up, and some very unsavoury websites had appeared in our favourites list.

My friend is a big fan of some fairly obscure rock bands, and it seems she spent a lot of time on our computer trawling some of the darker areas of the internet to find information and pictures of these groups.

A friend told us about EggHeads and we soon had an EggHead come round to look at our machine.  He quickly discovered that our computer was riddled with viruses and what he called 'spyware' which I now know is to be carefully avoided!

Over the course of a few hours he gradually removed hundreds of different nasties from the machine and added new programs to stop the problem happening again.

Once the machine was back to its old self, he spoke to us about how we used the computer and any other problems we might have been having before the infections occurred.  We're both really in to our music and we did have a problem trying to get music on to my iPod, because there wasn't enough space to keep all of our albums on the machine at one time.  We also had problems editing photos, which the computer really struggled with.

The next day we received an email report from our EggHead explaining everything he had done the evening before, and making some recommendations for changes to our computer that would make it possible to keep all our music in one place and edit photos& read more...
"My EggHead is a Mighty Virus-Hunter!" - Thursday, August 24, 2006
"A friend put me on to EggHeads a couple of weeks ago.  I spend a lot of time online for work and fun, but just recently both my work computer and my home PC have been really, really slow.  I rang EggHeads and organised an appointment to drop my machines off with them so they could take a look.

I quickly got some feedback that both systems had some fairly bad virus infections.  I had my work laptop so was in no rush, but a couple of days later I got a call from the EggHead who'd been working on my machines to tell me that they were both fixed.

I couldn't believe it when I saw my Egg Report!  Both machines had at least fifteen different viruses and had been sending out spam emails all over the world.  My anti-virus programme had only detected one virus and couldn't even remove it.

EggHeads installed a new anti-virus programme on each machine, which is free to use - I was paying money every year for updates to the old one.  They also installed a firewall to give me more protection when going online.

The final part of the Egg Report gave me lots of advice about how to make sure my computer was safe when using it online, and suggested some upgrades that might make the machine run better.

"EggHeads Helped Me Choose The Right Digital Camera" - Tuesday, July 04, 2006
"I wanted to buy a new digital camera but I didn't know where to start looking, what I needed or how to get the right price.  My friend told me about EggHeads so I gave them a call.  The EggHead was very patient and asked me lots of questions to help me work out exactly what I needed - for example, he suggested that a camera with a big screen would be good so that I could use it without my glasses!  I also wanted one without fiddly little controls. 

The EggHead then went away and did some research before sending me a shortlist.  We couldn't meet up so he suggested I take the shortlist to a local branch of Jessops to try them all out and find out which one I liked most.  On the shortlist he had listed all of the best prices for each model and where I could buy them online, but in the end the price at Jessops was competitive and I liked the safety of buying from the high street.
